Horapollo's Hieroglyphics Intro

Horapollo’s Secret Key
for the Egyptian Hieroglyphics

This system of meanings for Egyptian hieroglyphs
is not based on modern study of the actual context, but
rather is an ancient Greek interpretation
of the symbols, reportedly recorded by a Greek
named Horapollo Niliacus in the fifth century CE.
The “translations” which follow do not represent actual
Egyptian usage, in most cases, but instead represent
the esoteric meanings given to these symbols
by Alchemists, Rosicrucians, and Masonic tradition as early
as the fifteenth century CE. Many symbols of the
different Tarot systems trace their symbolism
back to Horapollo’s work.
